Google Star Rating Calculator
Google averages every review you've ever received, so one bad week can weigh on your rating for months. Move the sliders below to see exactly how many consecutive 5★ reviews it takes to pull your average up to a target rating.
You need 48 consecutive 5★ reviews to reach 4.5★.

How the Google rating calculator works
Google's star rating is a rolling average of every review your business
has ever received, weighted by how many reviews exist. That's why one or two
bad reviews barely move a rating with 500 reviews behind it, but can sink a
rating with only 10. This calculator uses the standard rating-average math —
approximating your review "sum" as current rating × review count
— to work out how many consecutive 5-star reviews it would take to pull your
average up to a target, using the formula
reviews needed = ceil((target − current) × count / (5 − target)).
It updates instantly as you move the sliders, entirely in your browser — no
data is sent anywhere.
The table below the sliders shows the same calculation for three common targets — 4.2, 4.5, and 4.8 stars — so you can see at a glance how much further a "good", "great", or "excellent" rating actually is from where you stand today.
Why this matters for local search
Google Business Profile rating is one of the most visible trust signals in local search — it shows up in the Google Maps pack, in Search results, and in every review-request or review-reply your business sends. A jump from 4.2 to 4.5 stars might look small, but the math above usually reveals it takes dozens of new 5-star reviews to get there, especially once a business already has a large review count. That's exactly why consistently asking every customer for a review — rather than occasionally, or only when you remember — is the only realistic way to move the needle.
A note on "impossible" targets
You'll notice the calculator refuses to show a number for a target of 5.0 stars. That's not a bug — averaging in even one review below 5 stars means a business can approach a perfect 5.0 but can never mathematically reach it with a finite number of additional reviews. Realistic, achievable targets sit at 4.8 or 4.9, which this calculator will happily solve for.
Once you know how many reviews you need, the next challenge is actually collecting them consistently. BizGo's Review Engine sends every customer a compliant WhatsApp review request automatically, so the count keeps climbing without manual follow-up — see the box above to set it up.
Frequently Asked Questions
It uses the standard review-average formula: reviews needed = ceil((target rating − current rating) × review count / (5 − target rating)). This approximates your total review "sum" as current rating × review count, since Google only shows the rounded average and count, not the exact sum.
If your current rating is below 5.0, averaging in existing reviews means you can get arbitrarily close to 5.0 but never exactly reach it with a finite number of additional reviews. Try a target of 4.8 or 4.9 instead.
Yes, completely free with no login and no connection to your Google Business Profile — you type in your current rating and count manually, and everything is calculated in your browser.
No — it calculates the number of consecutive 5-star reviews needed, which is the fastest possible path to a target rating. Any review below 5 stars would require more total reviews than the number shown.
