Converting a WebP image (increasingly common from websites and modern cameras) down to a universally-compatible JPG is one of the most common reasons people land here — plenty of older software, print shops, and forms still don't accept WebP. Going the other way (JPG or PNG to WebP) usually produces a noticeably smaller file at the same visual quality, useful if you're optimizing your own website's images. Each preset size uses a "cover crop" centered on your photo, so it fills the exact target dimensions without stretching or distorting.
HEIC (iPhone) photos: what to expect
iPhones save photos in Apple's HEIC format by default. This tool will try to open a HEIC file directly, but most browsers other than Safari on iPhone/Mac have no built-in HEIC decoder and simply can't read the raw file — when that happens, you'll see a clear message with two easy fixes: open the photo in Safari (which converts it automatically), or use your phone's Photos/gallery app to export or share it as a JPG first, then upload that JPG here instead. Bundling a full HEIC decoder in this tool isn't practical — those add a megabyte or more of extra download for every visitor, most of whom never touch a HEIC file — so this deliberate fallback keeps the tool fast for everyone.
