Competitor Review Gap Calculator
Enter your Google rating and review count, your competitor's, and how many new reviews you plan to collect per week. See exactly how many reviews and weeks it takes to overtake them on both rating and review count.
At 5 reviews/week you overtake in ~16 weeks.

How the overtake calculation works
Beating a competitor on Google reviews really means beating them on two separate numbers at once: your star rating and your total review count. This calculator solves both. The rating side reuses the same solver as our Google Star Rating Calculator — treating your competitor's current rating as the "target" and working out how many consecutive 5-star reviews you'd need to match it. The count side is simpler: it's the difference between your competitor's review count and yours, divided by your planned weekly review pace, rounded up to a whole number of weeks.
Because a new review moves both numbers at once — it adds to your count and (if it's 5 stars) pulls your average up — the estimated overtake date uses whichever gap takes longer to close: matching their rating, or closing the count gap. That's the number shown as "estimated weeks to overtake."
Reading the result
If your competitor already has a lower rating and fewer reviews than you, the calculator will show you've already overtaken them — nothing further to do. If your competitor's rating is a perfect (or near-perfect) 5.0, matching it exactly is mathematically unreachable with any finite number of additional reviews, and the calculator will say so plainly rather than showing a misleading number — in that case, focus on closing the review count gap instead, since a review count lead is achievable and still moves the needle in local search.
Turning the plan into reality
The hardest part of this plan isn't the math — it's actually hitting your planned reviews-per-week pace, week after week, without manually chasing every customer. BizGo's Review Engine sends every customer a compliant WhatsApp review request automatically after every visit, so your weekly review count keeps climbing on autopilot. See the box above to set it up and close the gap faster than the manual estimate above assumes.
Frequently Asked Questions
It reuses the same solver as our Google Star Rating Calculator, treating your competitor's current rating as the target: reviews needed = ceil((competitor rating − your rating) × your review count / (5 − competitor rating)).
Matching a perfect 5.0 exactly is mathematically unreachable with any finite number of additional reviews once your own rating is below 5.0 — the calculator shows this plainly instead of a misleading number, and suggests focusing on the review count gap instead.
The calculator handles this cleanly — with no reviews to match on either rating or count, it will show you've already overtaken them.
The rating- and count-side gaps still calculate, but the calculator will ask you to add a planned reviews/week pace before it can estimate a timeline in weeks.
Ask every customer for a review consistently — BizGo's Review Engine automates this over WhatsApp after every visit. See the box above this tool.
