How the ad budget goal-seek works
Instead of guessing a budget and hoping it's enough, this calculator works
backward from your revenue goal through your entire funnel:
sales needed = goal / average sale value, then
leads needed = sales needed / close rate, then
clicks needed = leads needed / landing conversion rate, and
finally ad spend needed = clicks needed × cost per click (CPC).
Each step answers "how many of the previous stage do I need to hit the
stage above it?" — which is exactly how a sales funnel is meant to be
planned.
Worked examples
Example 1 — a services business: a ₹5,00,000/month revenue goal, ₹2,500 average sale value, a 20% close rate, a 5% landing conversion rate, and ₹15 CPC. Sales needed = 500,000 / 2,500 = 200 sales. Leads needed = 200 / 0.20 = 1,000 leads. Clicks needed = 1,000 / 0.05 = 20,000 clicks. Ad spend needed = 20,000 × 15 = ₹3,00,000.
Example 2 — a higher-ticket product: a ₹2,00,000/month goal, ₹10,000 average sale value, a 30% close rate, an 8% landing conversion rate, and ₹8 CPC. Sales needed = 20. Leads needed = 20 / 0.30 ≈ 67 leads. Clicks needed = 67 / 0.08 ≈ 834 clicks. Ad spend needed ≈ 834 × 8 ≈ ₹6,672 — a much smaller budget, because a higher close rate and conversion rate mean far fewer clicks are wasted along the way.
Why close rate and conversion rate matter more than budget
Comparing the two examples shows the real lever most businesses under-use: improving close rate or landing conversion cuts the required budget dramatically, often more than any amount of extra ad spend could. Before increasing budget, it's usually cheaper to fix the funnel stages that convert poorly.
One free lever many businesses skip: a strong Google review presence lifts landing-page and offline conversion rates simultaneously, at zero ongoing ad spend — which lowers the "clicks needed" and "spend needed" numbers this calculator produces. See the box above to set up BizGo's Review Engine and put that lever to work automatically.
Frequently Asked Questions
Work backward: sales needed = goal / average sale value, leads needed = sales needed / close rate, clicks needed = leads needed / landing conversion rate, and ad spend needed = clicks needed × cost per click (CPC).
The calculator shows a friendly error instead of a result — a 0% rate means the funnel mathematically never converts a sale, so no finite ad spend could reach the goal.
Only if your close rate and landing conversion rate stay constant. This calculator shows that improving those two rates usually cuts the required budget far more than simply spending more on ads.
It varies heavily by industry and price point — a 15-25% close rate on qualified leads and a 3-8% landing page conversion rate are reasonable starting benchmarks for many small businesses, but always check your own historical numbers first.
CPC is the average amount you pay per click on a paid ad — from Google Ads, Meta Ads, or any platform where you're charged per click. Your ad platform's dashboard reports this directly.
